It is quite difficult to fully comprehend why people smoke cigarettes especially for people who are classed as non-smokers. Smoking cigarettes is not a natural or pleasurable thing to do.

Why would they want to waste so much of their hard earned money on this disgusting smoking habit, and damage their health in this way.

Why do people smoke for the first time?

Most smokers began their habit when they were in their early teens.

Teenage peers often urge an adolescent to engage in smoking. Other reason may be desire to seem older or sophisticated.
Teenage girls sometimes smoke to control their appetites and refuse to give up smoking because they fear gaining weight. Also smoking parents who should avoid tobacco themselves act as role models for youths.

In result adolescents often begin smoking because they want just to look older and they want to emulate or impress their peers. Once these people start smoking it becomes an addiction and then quitting it becomes a major problem.

Why people continue to smoke?

They continue smoking well into adulthood, often experiencing great difficulty in wresting themselves free from this addiction.
